Ecuador offers several calm waterways where we can explore the wildlife up close from a sea kayak, enjoy expeditions in the Amazon rainforest and the Pacific coast as well as day trips to Andean lakes.
Our sea kayaking tours include: Private transportation, overnight accommodations, sea-kayak equipment, professional certified bilingual guide and meals as indicated.
Below is sample itinerary for sea kayaking with humpback whales in Machalilla National Park (Whale-migration season June to October)
Machalilla National Park is the best-preserved coastal reserve in continental Ecuador. It is the site of magnificent beaches, tropical dry forests and pre-Inca ruins from the Valdivia, Chorrera, and Manteño cultures. The park also includes Isla de la Plata, an island famous for having wildlife similar to that of the Galapagos Islands. Each day brings new adventures as we kayak various sections of the park where Humpback whales gather to bear their offspring.
Day 1 - Quito or Guayaquil
Arrival in Quito or Guayaquil. Transfer and check in at your boutique hotel.
Day 2 - Machalilla National Park
Transfer from Quito or Guayaquil byair to Manta and Machalilla National Park. The park was established to conserve a unique dry-forest ecosystem. We visit local museums and practice our paddle technique to get familiarized with our kayaks. We will spend the evening at a seaside lodge.
Day 3 - Salango (Sea Kayaking)
Today’s destination is Salango, a small islet located approximately 3 km offshore. We will keep an eye out for whales as we paddle. Salango is famous for its ancient burial grounds belonging to the Valdivia, Machalilla and Chorrera people. As we paddle and snorkel around the islet, we will be able to explore some beautiful pristine beaches.
Day 4 - Isla de la Plata (Isle of Silver)
On our third day we ride a motor boat to Isla de la Plata, which is known for its Galapagos-like marine life. During a short hike along the island’s trails we will encounter Blue Footed Boobies, Red Footed Boobies, Albatross and Sea lions. The evening will be spent relaxing at our seaside lodge.
Day 5 - Machalilla National Park (Sea Kayaking)
Morning paddle on our last day to a beautiful beach called La Playita, observing ocean and land birds. Midday transfer to Manta. Transfer by air to Quito or Guayaquil.
Day 6 - Quito - ?
Return home or join a trip extension to Kumanii rainforest lodge or enjoy a Galapagos multisport cruise or Amazon adventure tour
