Sample itinerary mountain biking tour

The diverse geographical features of Ecuador offer a great variety of possibilities for mountain biking tours. The mountain biking trips we offer visit remote areas where we can enjoy untouched nature and unique scenery. Some of our longer trips allow bikers to descend from the high Andes into the Amazon or coastal lowlands. Our off road adventures can be extreme or mild there are several levels of trails and something for everyone, from beginner bike riders to highly experienced professionals.

You can see diferent aspects of Ecuador on a mountain bike, the remote areas we explore sometimes are not accessible by other means. If you have a good level of physical fitness and experience on two wheels you can even cross the country form the Amazon through the Andes and into the Pacific coastDepending on your specific interest we can customize an itinerary for your and your group. We offer day trips and long tours around 21 days.

Our mountain bike tours include 4-wheel drive support vehicle, 21- speed mountain bikes TREK 3700 or GARY FISHER ADVANCE, safety gear (helmets, gloves, elbow and knee pads), all accommodation, meals and bilingual experienced guides.

Below is a sample mountain biking itinerary that allows travellers to enjoy the Andes and Amazon.

Day 1 - Quito

Arrival at Quito airport. Transfer in to your boutique hotel.

Day 2 - Quito - Otavalo

We head north into the awakening valley and enjoy visiting artisan villages and indigenous markets. After exploring the colorful market in Otavalo, we head to the crater lake Cuicocha. The afternoon ride will lead us back to Otavalo, through quaint villages and striking views of surrounding volcanoes. We will have plenty off-road fun. Spend the night at a historic hacienda.

Day 3 - Otavalo - Papallacta hot springs

Often taking advantage of our support vehicle to take us on the uphill legs, we head eastwards to the jungle and the hot springs town of Papallacta. Volcano Cayambe, and Antisana watch over our every move.  We will spend the night at the Papallacta thermals, well appointed rooms, hot springs to relax a good ending to a fun day.

Day 4 - Papallacta hot springs - Tena - Amazon rainforest lodge

Four hour ride through lush rainforest to Tena, in the Amazon basin. Dinner and night in lodge at river bank. 

Day 5 - Amazon rainforest lodge

A full day of jungle hiking accompanied by a Quechua Indian guide. We learn about medicinal plants and visit secondary and primary rainforest in search of wildlife. 

Day 6 - Amazon rainforest lodge - Baños

Bike from Tena to Baños through famous “Avenue of the orchids and the waterfalls”. Spectacular gorges, fun trails and cascading waterfalls are part of the scenery, many orchids to be found on the roadside.

Day 7 - Baños

Free day in Baños, a chance to rest tired muscles in the hot springs, hike the surrounding hills, or relax in one of the town's lovely cafes.  Baños offers access to additional adventure activities as canyoning, rapelling, dirt-biking, and more adrenalin charged sports (optional).

Day 8 - Baños - Chimborazo

Jeep to Chimborazo, the highest volcano in Ecuador, for far-reaching views. Ascent on foot until Refuge (5000 m) Fine descent on bike through patchwork fields. Spend the night at a boutique country inn. 

Day 9 - Chimborazo - Cotopaxi National Park - Quito

Transfer to Cotopaxi National Park, and the chance to bike down from the car park at 4 500 meters. Bike on highlands to Inca Ruins. After our last day of adventure we head back to Quito and spend the night at our boutique hotel.

Day 10 - Quito - ?

Return home or join a trip extension into the Choco rainforest lodge or enjoy a Galapagos boutique yacht cruise or Amazon riverboat adventure
