Pichincha is a province that has it all, from majestic mountains covered in snow, such as Cayambe, to humid jungles towards the coast, passing through hillsides a,d green vallies, dry valleys and cloudy jungles.

Quitowas the first city in the world be declared a Cultural Patromony in the World by UNESCO. It’s located at an altitude of 2,800 meters above sea level, surrounded by other valleys, such as Tumbaco to the north east and Los Chillos to the south east. To the west you’ll find Volcan Pichincha, at 4800 meters above sea level.

From Quito about 15 more volcanos dicrease throughout the north: Casitaga, Cotacachi, Fuya-Fuya and Cayambe; to the east: Puntas, Cotopaxi, Rumiñahui, Ilinizas, Corazón, and Atacazo. In the west, Quito is the dominating city of Pichincha.

In the province of Pichincha don{t stop to enjoy the main festivities, like the Fiesta de Chagra in Machachi,  Las fiestas de San Pedro and San Pablo in Cayambe, and the Fiestas de Quito starting from the end of November till December 6th, with bullfighting, music, dance, cultural events, etc. The gastronomy in this province will delight you with delicious locros de Guayallabamba to delicious Caldos de Manguera in Santo Domingo de los Colorados.

The calid valleys of  Machachi to Los Chillos are destined for farming and agriculture. Despite all this you can find the Remanente de Bosque Andino next to Volcan Pasochoa, with species of flora and fauna considered relics. Its here where wax palms and condors coexiste.

The dry valleys are represented by the valley of Rio Guayllabamba, a deep decline in the Andes towards to west.  Algarrobos with its umbrella aspect dominate the landscape and beautiful cactus with flowers. It takes little water from river coming down the mountains to make the flowers bloom with avocados, chirimoyas and other subtropical fruit.

Los Páramos vary and some of which are humid, which start from the eastern mountainside. Others are drier in the inner hillsides of the mountain range.  In the Paramos de Papallacta you can appreciate the tallest hummingbird int the world, el Estrella Ecuatoriano, essential for Ecuador. You can also find deer, pumas, and other species in the Ecological Reserve Cayambe-Coca, which includes the hillsides of Cayambe, Oyacachi, and Papallacta.
